The Italian group Tesmec recently acquired Marais Technologies, based in the Maine-et-Loire department in north-western France. The expanding Italian group has guaranteed that all local jobs will be preserved.
Fiber optics is a fast-growing technology. But laying the cables for these very high bandwidth connections to the internet takes a lot of work. This is where the cable-laying expertise of Marais Technologies comes into play, slicing its way through the tarmac to enhance telecom, electricity or gas networks.
Based at Durtal, between Angers and Le Mans, Marais Technologies turned over €26m. in 2013, around half in exports. The company employs more than 200 people. Represented on several continents, it has been bought-out by the Italian group Tesmec, a leading international network infrastructure company, in a deal worth an estimated €14m.
Founded in 1951, Tesmec has been pursuing a strategy of company buyouts for the last four years. The deal with Marais, which was facilitated by the Maine-et-Loire economic growth committee, encouraged the Italian group to improve its bid, whilst securing local jobs. And Tesmec’s guarantee of €5m. for the relaunch of its new French subsidiary is the icing on the cake.
