Yildiz is the world’s 3rd largest biscuit manufacturer and the largest food and beverage company in Turkey with over 320 brands in 49 different categories.
The latter wishes to expand internationally thanks to the acquisition of United Biscuits, whose activities are considered very complementary.
United Biscuits (UB) is a leading manufacturer and marketer of biscuits in the UK and 2nd largest in the Netherlands, France, Belgium and Ireland. Among UB’s popular brand names are McVitie’s, Penguin, go ahead!, McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes, Jacob’s, Jacob’s Cream Crackers, Twiglets, Mini Cheddars and Carr’s in the UK, and BN, Delacre, Verkade and Sultana in Continental Europe. UB owns and operates 16 manufacturing facilities of which 7 are in the UK.
BN (Biscuiterie Nantaise, founded in Nantes in 1896) was acquired by UB in 1998. The brand was originally created in 1897, and it enjoys a strong reputation in France.
Over the years, BN has established itself as an indispensable brand in the biscuit market, focusing particularly on the snack, sandwich, and cookie segment. As one of the most popular biscuit brands in France, BN relies on the strength of its image as a unique brand – that of a biscuit with an appetizing smile.
Almost inexistent in the UK, Yildiz has a considerable presence in North America, the Middle East and North Africa, as well as China and Japan.
Yildiz considers that the brand portfolio held by UB is complementary with that of its agro-food subsidiary, Ülker, which notably manufactures biscuits and chocolate products, including, for example, the Belgian chocolates, Godiva.
BN, with LU, is a “Franco-Nantes” specificity, and an icon of the sweet biscuit industry. Each one is different from the other, but has practically no equivalent elsewhere in the world.
