2014 Annual Report of Foreign Investment in Pays de la Loire, the region attracts industrial projects

In 2014, foreign-owned companies consolidated their presence in the Loire area by making significant investments in the expansion or modernization of their industrial sites.

The publication of the 2014 Annual Report on Foreign Investment in France made by Business France (founded through a merger between Ubifrance and the Invest in France Agency (AFII)) provides the opportunity to give an overview of foreign investment in the Pays de la Loire in 2014 and the results of the Regional International Hub’s activities.

To better understand France’s competitive environment and assess the reality of foreign investments, for its 2014 Annual Report, Business France decided to record investment decisions from the 1st job created and widen the data collection to the different types of investments and establishments.

  • A constant increase in the number of foreign investment projects in Pays de la Loire

The Pays de la Loire region improved its volume of international investments in number of foreign investment projects:

Out of 45 projects identified (with the widened criteria of Business France), these investments represent nearly 930 new jobs planned over 3 years and 470 jobs saved via:




  • An attractive region with a confirmed industrial anchoring

A significant increase driven by Germany and the USA, in particular in the sector of Advanced Production Technologies

Germany was the 1st foreign investor in the region in 2014 closely followed by the USA and Italy.countriesFDI





The main industries that generated projects and jobs in 2014 were:

· Advanced Production Technologies: 34% of the projects for 44% of jobs created (Airbus/Netherlands)
· Digital, electronics: 9% of the projects for 35% of jobs created (Accenture/Ireland)
· Services: 13% of the projects for 8% of jobs created
· Energy: 7% of the projects for 5% of jobs created
· Chemicals/plastics industries: 9% of the projects for 4% of jobs created

  •    The International Hub: a mechanism of regional collaboration unique in France

On behalf of the Pays de la Loire region, the Regional Agency drives the International Technical Hub, with the task of implementing the shared road map for the internationalization of the Loire economy and, since 2013, ensuring the coordination of activities. The Hub comprises the Region, the Regional Agency – Pays de la Loire ‘Territoires d’Innovation’, a State representative, French public agencies (Business France, Customs, CCEF, Coface, BPI), territorial authorities (via the Development Agencies and Economic Development Committees), the International CCI and the Regional Chamber of Agriculture. The Hub has 2 main goals:

· “International attractiveness of the region” activity, conducted by the Regional Agency, focuses on the strategy and territorial marketing of the various sectors and the search for new foreign investors.
· “Business International Development” activity, conducted jointly with the CCI International, provides companies with support for exports and the development of international partnerships.

Support for foreign investment projects by the International Hub enabled 17 projects to be implemented in 2014 (or 38% of projects).

Cooperation between Scotland and Pays de la Loire in Marine Renewable Energy

The THETIS convention (May 2015) has been a unique occasion to strengthen the cooperation initiated between Scotland and Pays de la Loire in the field of Marine Renewable Energy. Thanks to collaboration with Scottish Developpment International and our business cluster Neopolia MRE, a meeting has been organized between companies from both territories.

They were invited in Nantes to present their projects and their search for partners.

A return mission will be organized to Scotland in the coming months for the partnership to become an industrial reality.ThetisPDLScotland

International Business Days in Le Mans on 10-11 June 2015

The 8th edition of International Business Days Le Mans will take place in Technoparc Le
Mans 24 Hour circuit on next June 10th & 11th.

The Spanish CUPASTONE chose Nantes

January 2015: CUPASTONE, European leader in Natural Stone (formerly CUPA Pierre Naturelle) and subsidiary of the Spanish multinational, CUPAGROUP (world leader in the extraction, production and sale of natural slate and the European reference for Natural Stone), has chosen Nantes for the installation of its new logistics platform.

With turnover of nearly 400 million euros in 2014, CUPAGROUP employs 2,000 people and has its own quarries in Spain, Portugal, France and Brazil, with production companies in Spain, Portugal, France, Brazil and China.


Managed by its French subsidiary, CUPASTONE, which already exports worldwide, the project should generate a number of job creations in Nantes Saint-Nazaire.

The Business France Agency in Madrid and Paris, working closely with the Pays de la Loire Regional Economic Development Agency, helped successfully implement CUPASTONE’s investment project.   The Pays de la Loire Regional Agency coordinated the Company’s connection with the Nantes Métropole Development Agency and monitored meetings with Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port, the installation site manager.

Géraldine Filippi, Director of International Investments at Business France, Madrid, welcomes CUPASTONE’s choice of Nantes to continue this magnificent development project.

Enero 2015: CUPASTONE, referencia en la distribución piedra natural en Europa  y parte de la multinacional CUPAGROUP (líder mundial en la extracción, producción y comercialización de pizarra natural  y leader Europeo en Piedra Natural) ha escogido Francia, y concretamente Nantes para implantar una plataforma logística.

Con una facturación próxima a los 400 millones de euros en 2014, CUPAGROUP da empleo a 2 000 personas y dispone de canteras en España, Portugal, Francia y Brasil así como de fábricas en España, Portugal, Francia, Brasil y China.

El proyecto de CUPASTONE que exporta al mundo entero, debería creará varios puestos de trabajo en Nantes Saint-Nazaire.

La agencia Business France en Madrid y en París, en estrecha colaboración con la Agencia de Desarrollo Económico Regional de Pays de la Loire, ha contribuido a llevar a cabo el proyecto de inversión de CUPASTONE. La Agencia Regional de Pays de la Loire ha permitido poner en relación la empresa con la agencia de desarrollo de Nantes Metropole (Nantes Metropole Développement) y ha hecho el seguimiento de los encuentros de CUPASTONE con el Puerto de Nantes Saint-Nazaire – gestor del emplazamiento.
